A laser beam is navigated through the skin into the pigment in the hair. Laser hair removal technique emanates light at wavelengths which are captured by the pigment in the hair follicle (pigment gives hair its colour). The laser is then pulsed for less than a second keeping it long enough to damage the follicle. Intense pulsed light (IPL) which has been captured by the pigment turns into heat eventually disrupting the follicle. Regrowth of hair is delayed due to the thermal damage leading to permanent destruction of the hair follicle.
Who is an ideal candidate for laser hair removal?
Laser hair removal works effectively on almost everyone. Since the most important function of laser treatment is to target the pigment in the hair follicle to damage it permanently; it may respond less on lighter or blonde hair as these hair types do not have pigment present in them. In most cases an ideal candidate is a person with light skin and dark hair. However, laser hair removal equipment has sophisticated technology which eliminates hair on most skin and hair types. The machinery settings can be regulated to safeguard the surface of the skin.
Hair removal can take longer to show effect on lighter hair types because the pigment in lighter hair can take longer to react to the treatment. Thus the frequency of treatments may be higher compared to dark hair. How many treatments will I need?
